Melbourne Arts Precinct

About

Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation

The Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation (MAP Co) was established to harness the collective creativity of the Melbourne Arts Precinct in delivering Australia’s largest ever cultural infrastructure project, and operating Fed Square.

Established by the Victorian Government, MAP Co is responsible for bringing to life a single continuous arts, civic, and cultural precinct stretching from Fed Square through to Southbank, NGV, and beyond.

Once the transformation is complete, MAP Co will also manage and activate the new 18,000 square metre public parklands that will connect the Melbourne Arts Precinct in a seamless and immersive cultural experience and support biodiversity.

National Gallery of Victoria

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is the oldest and most visited gallery in Australia. Situated over two magnificent buildings – NGV International and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia – the Gallery hosts a wide range of international and local artists, exhibitions, programs and events; from contemporary art to major international historic exhibitions, fashion and design, architecture, sound and dance.

Founded in 1861, today the NGV holds the most significant collection of art in the region; a vast treasury of more than 76,000 works that span thousands of years and a wealth of ideas, disciplines and styles.

Mission

Stretching from the high bank of the plentiful Birrarung southward, the Melbourne Arts Precinct is a globally significant space of gathering and creativity.

This place has long brought people together, for the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people and visiting Kulin Nations over tens of thousands of years, and through successive waves of construction of the city of Melbourne.

MAP Co builds on these rich assets handed down by previous generations, in support of a bold contemporary vision.

As we embark into a new era of collective life and the city redefines itself as a place of experience, productivity and connection, we are harnessing the extraordinary collective energy of the Precinct’s rich arts activity and organisations.

We are enhancing this living heritage by delivering the Victorian Government’s $1.7 billion Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project. Through the major rejuvenation of Arts Centre Melbourne, delivering The Fox: NGV Contemporary, joined together by a beautiful new green public space, supporting biodiversity and connecting to the city through Federation Square.

The Melbourne Arts Precinct is owned by the people of Victoria. This transformation will alter the fabric of our city. Through deep collaboration, innovation and partnership it will be accessible and inclusive of all backgrounds, all abilities, all stories. Through bold design we will create a safe, shared and flourishing precinct to visit, live and work in - fostering diversity, connecting our past and present, our cultures and storylines now and for future generations.
