LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura

Lugano, Switzerland

Member Profile

Lugano Arte e Cultura (LAC) is a new art center in Lugano, Switzerland designed to host and enhance the wide range of art forms offered in the city. Within the 40,000 m2 structure the art center include a museum, a 1’000 seats concert hall/theater, a small Teatrostudio – a venue for rehearsals and intimate performances –, magnificent public spaces such as a Hall and a public plaza. Along with providing a haven for visual and performing arts, LAC serves as a focal gathering point for the city itself – a welcoming and accesible destination. Overlooking Lake Lugano towards the shore of Italy, the eyecatching cultural center aims to provide a single space in which to present an international programme made of exhibitions, music, dance, and theater performances.

LAC also involves a programme of artist residencies and acts as co-producer in order to encourage artistic growth in the city and region, while strengthening its identity as the cultural crossroad between the north and south of Europe.

Firmly committed to education and inclusion, LAC edu is the educational programme of the art center, developed to invite the population, from toddlers to adults, to engage closely with the arts, by offering classes, free events, lectures, or workshops.

LAC is fully engaged in presenting public art and installations in its public spaces. In the Winter of 2016, LAC partnered with GCDN members, the Quartier des Spectacles, to host “Impulse”, an interactive installation composed of large illuminated and sound producing seesaws that turned LAC’s public plaza into a huge playground. LAC plans to host another installation in December 2017, entitled “Loop”.
