Birmingham City Centre (City Curator)

Birmingham, UK

Member Profile

Birmingham has long been a city of makers – from its industrial roots as the “workshop of the world” to its modern role as a powerhouse of music, food and creativity. It is the birthplace of heavy metal and the home of bhangra in the UK. It has always been a place where new sounds and creative innovations have flourished. Just as its music reflects diversity and innovation, so too does its food. Celebrated for its legendary Balti Triangle, Birmingham’s culinary landscape mirrors the city’s rich diversity – from Caribbean street food to Michelin-starred restaurants and so much more.

Birmingham has recently appointed a City Curator; a role fully funded by Colmore BID, supported by all five City Centre Business Improvement Districts (BID), the City Council and wider city partners. This role is beginning to shape creative activations and cultural strategy progression across the city centre. Work most recently includes establishing Birmingham Light Festival, the first city wide festival be founded by all five City Centre BIDs, signalling the beginning of a new collaborative approach.
