West Kowloon Cultural District
A Place for Everyone

Stretching across 40 hectares of reclaimed land, the West Kowloon Cultural District is one of the largest cultural projects in the world, blending art, education and open space.
Its vision is to create a vibrant cultural quarter for Hong Kong where the local arts scene can interact, develop and collaborate. Providing 23 hectares of public open space with two kilometres of vibrant harbour-front promenade, it will also include a variety of arts and cultural facilities that will produce and host world-class exhibitions, performances and arts and cultural events.

Xiqu Centre
A world-class arts venue dedicated to promoting the rich heritage of xiqu

Located on the eastern edge of the West Kowloon Cultural District, the Xiqu Centre has a total area of 28,164 sq m and houses a Grand Theatre, accommodating 1,075 seats, a Tea House Theatre, with a capacity of up to 200 seats, eight professional studios and a seminar hall, all specially designed for different types of xiqu-related functions and activities.

Museum of visual culture

M+, Hong Kong’s new museum of visual culture – encompassing 20th and 21st century visual art, design and architecture, and moving image from Hong Kong, the Mainland, Asia and beyond – will be one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world.

Hong Kong Palace Museum

The Hong Kong Palace Museum aspires to become one of the world’s leading cultural institutions committed to the study and appreciation of Chinese art and culture, while advancing dialogue among world civilizations through international partnerships. Located at the western tip of the West Kowloon Cultural District, with sweeping views of the city’s iconic Victoria Harbour, the museum is scheduled to open in mid-2022.

Freespace

Freespace – Hong Kong’s new centre for contemporary performance in the heart of the West Kowloon Art Park – presents multi-genre performances and events, produces boundary-pushing collaborations, and promotes new ways of seeing and experiencing performance.

Lyric Theatre Complex
A centre of excellence showcasing the best of Hong Kong and international dance and theatre

A centre of excellence showcasing the best of Hong Kong and international dance and theatre, the Lyric Theatre Complex will comprise a 1,450-seat lyric theatre, a 600-seat medium theatre and a 270-seat studio theatre. The complex will also house extensive rehearsal facilities and a Resident Company Centre that will serve as an exploration, development and collaboration hub for dance companies and artists in Hong Kong.
The Lyric Theatre Complex is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
