Athena Balopoulou

Chief Strategy & Development Officer, SNFCC

Athena Balopoulou is a cultural professional dedicated to turning creative practices
and social purpose into organizational strength, driven by a belief that arts and
culture belong in the texture of everyday life.

She is currently the Chief Strategy and Development Officer of the Stavros Niarchos
Foundation Cultural Center, where she leads the organization’s development
initiatives, strategic planning, and marketing and communications. Over her ten-year
tenure at the SNFCC, she has played a pivotal role in shaping one of the most
widely embraced and trusted cultural brands in Greece in recent years- crafting and
activating strategies that have connected the organization with local and global
audiences in innovative ways.

Before joining the SNFCC, she shaped her practice across New York, London, and
Berlin, moving between institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, Arts
Council England, and NESTA, and gaining a breadth of perspective across the
museum, policy, and innovation sectors. These experiences were followed by a
period in brand and arts communications consulting, which included direct
collaborations with artists and creative practitioners across the world.

She holds an MA in Creative and Media Enterprises from the University of Warwick
and a BSc in Marketing from Athens University of Economics and Business.
